First introduced in F1 2020, the Podium Pass combines challenges, XP, levels and virtual currency to offer a parallel progression system, unlocking new items. For F1 22 this has been expanded with lifestyle items, being part of F1 Life, alongside racing related items.
Here’s everything you need to know about Podium Pass and what’s new for the 2022 season match.
What is the F1 22 Podium Pass?
The Podium Pass in F1 22 is a way to access or earn in-game cosmetic items for your My Team custom driver or non-racing F1 Life avatar. This is divided into two main tiers: Free and VIP.
Items are accumulated either by completing challenges, increasing XP, or purchasing through an item shop.
How many Podium Pass tiers are there?
Each of the two Podium Pass tiers has 30 levels to go through. Levels are unlocked by earning a set amount of in-game XP which increases between each level.
There is also a bonus prestige level for each level if you complete all 30 levels.

How to unlock items in Podium Pass?
Each time you unlock a level, by playing the game you can unlock items, but they don’t appear on every level.
For example, in the first Podium Pass series of F1 22, the free tier consists of 14 items out of a possible 30. The VIP level, however, has an additional item to unlock for each level of XP progressed.

How do I earn XP for Podium Pass Tiers?
After each F1 22 race you participate in, you receive experience points (XP). These help you move up the ranks, starting with the first rung.
You receive XP from most things you do in the game. Complete a three-lap Grand Prix or win a ranked online race, for example, and the rewards vary based on your performance.
In the My Team career mode, for example, you earn 100 XP per round in any session, plus bonuses based on results.
The amount of XP you receive can also be increased by completing Podium Pass challenges.

What are Podium Pass challenges?
In the Podium Pass section of the game, you can access a “Challenges” section. Complete the required objectives and you’ll receive additional XP to help you reach higher Podium Pass tiers, unlocking new cosmetic items.
These are divided into three types: Standard, VIP, and Series Daily Challenges.

Standard Podium Pass Challenges
The Standard Challenge refreshes every 24 hours and is available to all players. For example, it could be completing a race in Australia for 250 XP.

Series Podium Pass Challenges
Series Challenges have four sub-categories: Solo, Career, Multiplayer, and Weekly Events.
Solo challenges include goals like setting a certain lap time in the time trial for 1000 XP, career challenges could be to complete a double in my team, multiplayer could complete three online races without incident for 1250 XP and weekly challenges relate to competing in weekly online events.
Series challenges only update every eight weeks.

VIP Podium Pass Challenges
VIP challenges are only available to those who purchase the Podium Pass VIP tier.
It includes eight new challenges, for bonus XP, refreshed weekly for eight weeks, meaning you have a better chance of progressing through levels.
They work the same way as the Standard and Series challenges, apart from being paid, and are spread across all game modes. For example, make five pit stops in My Team for 750 XP or travel 50 miles in Great Britain .

How do I start a Podium Pass Challenge?
You cannot initiate a Podium Pass challenge. You can view challenge conditions from the Podium Pass menu, but you cannot select to start them. Instead, write down what the challenge is, then replicate the requirements in Time Trial, Grand Prix, Multiplayer, and Career modes.
How long does a Podium Pass series last?
Podium Pass series typically last eight weeks. After the end of the eight-week period, there is a short interval between the end of one series and the next start.
Once a streak is reset, a new range of items and challenges are introduced and you automatically return to Tier 1 with zero XP.
How to access the Podium Pass in F1 22?
To access the Podium Pass in F1 22, click the left joystick on the controller (L3 on PlayStation, for example) which brings up the Player Hub. You can also browse the main menu until it reaches Player Hub. From there, there is a Podium Pass option.
Once selected, the main Podium Pass hub will appear, where you can check your current level, see what items could be unlocked, visit the Item Shop, buy Pitcoin, or view challenges.

What types of items are included in the Podium Pass?
Only cosmetic items, with no performance upgrades, can be earned through Podium Pass. Items include:
- Car liveries
- Victory Radio Calls
- Racing suits
- helmet designs
- Glove designs
- Insignia emblems
- Livery Decals
- Driver Poses
- personal car stickers
- Podium Emotes
- Pitcoin Currency
- F1 Life seats
- F1 Life furniture
- F1 Life Upholstery Fabric
- F1 Life wall designs
- F1 Life wall art
- F1 Life Lighting
The car’s livery designs and the racing driver’s outfit – gloves, helmet, overalls – can be used when the player’s car is driven, for example in time trials or online. Similarly, with badge emblems, driver names and car stickers, items can be added in the customization menu.

In the previous game, F1 2021, some of the livery designs were inspired by popular F1 game content creators, such as Tiametmarduk, MaximeMXM and aarava. While none of these are confirmed for F1 22 so far, it will be interesting to see if any other famous faces make their way into the game.

Podium Emotes
Podium emotes in F1 22 are seen in single-player and online races, where your custom character will perform a dance or move in the podium cutscene – provided you finish in the top three in a race vent

Victory Radio Calls
The F1 22 victory radio calls are audible celebrations you can switch between. These only play if you win a race, in single player or online multiplayer. Interestingly, online, if you win, the other contestants hear your victory radio call.

F1 Life Items
New to Podium Pass for F1 22 is F1 Life, and some of the customization items are unlockable through Podium Pass. It’s about dressing up and personalizing your living room and/or your apartment. In addition to displaying a road supercar, you can change wallpaper, art, lighting elements, upholstery, furniture, and larger seats.
These form the backdrop to the game’s main menu, but also a lobby for online races.

How much does the VIP Podium Pass cost?
The VIP Podium Pass in F1 22 costs 9,000 Pitcoin per series.
Once a streak ends, your VIP access will too, so if you want to grab VIP back in round 2, for example, that’s another 9,000 Pitcoin, please. However, if you complete all tiers of a Podium Pass Free and VIP streak, you can earn additional Pitcoins to help you purchase the next VIP tier when it becomes available.

What is Pitcoin?
Pitcoin is a fictional virtual currency used with the F1 22 game. This is used to purchase the Podium Pass VIP tier or Customization Trinkets in the Item Shop or Brand Shop.

What is the F1 22 Item Shop?
The F1 22 Item Shop is a place to buy cosmetic items for your F1 car, character, or living area using Pitcoin. These items won’t be unlockable through Podium Pass at the same time, so if you like what you see, you need to spend those Pitcoins.
It’s worth noting that it’s separate from the new Brand Shop, more on that below. The Item Shop can be accessed by clicking on the Podium Pass section or directly from the Player Hub.
