KGVO’s Peter Christian – “Now I have my OWN COVID 19 story”

It was bound to happen one day but my story started in earnest today (Saturday) when after catching what I thought was just a cold on Friday turned out to be COVID 19 today.

I managed to get on my Montana Morning News and Talk Back show on Friday, but after getting home I realized my annual “January cold” had arrived.

My very wise wife, who works at a local hospital herself, said I better get tested, just in case. So I went to the Flynn Lane COVID testing center not realizing it was closed on Saturday.

This led to a visit to the Grant Creek walk-in clinic, where I was seen by a doctor who, after putting this long swab in my nose for a quick test, said, “Well , you are positive for COVID.”

This was a big surprise as I am FULLY immunized (Johnson and Johnson) and got my booster and a flu shot so it looks like I am one of many ‘breakthrough’ cases.

Now what?

I immediately called my wife and family, everyone involved in the healthcare industry and they all said the same thing: go home and stay home for the next five days.

Here comes the crazy part; I FEEL GOOD!!! Just a little runny nose and a very mild cough, but the instructions I got from the Missoula County Health Department were pretty clear (and I intend to follow them):

Rest, drink plenty of clear fluids, follow a diet as tolerated.

Tylenol or ibuprofen for body aches, headaches and fever control.

Warm liquids with honey to soothe the throat and help suppress coughs.

Mucolytic, such as Mucinex to help with congestion, if needed.

Cough suppressants such as Delsym or Robitussin to help suppress coughing as needed.

CDC guidelines advise 5-10 isolation from the onset of symptoms, and that once you are fever free for at least 24 hours after your isolation (I have never had a fever in any event)

Follow up at the clinic if there is no dramatic improvement in the next 5-7 days, or sooner if it gets worse.

If you have a significant worsening, such as severe shortness of breath, chest pain, persistent vomiting, or confusion, see a local emergency room..’

Here is the good news; my blood pressure was 108/70. and my temp was only 97.1. My oxygen saturation level was near perfect at 96%.

So, in other words, I am completely healthy….except I have COVID!!

Needless to say, I won’t be able to do my Montana Morning News or Talk Back show all next week, so the Town Square crew will fill in as best I can.

I’ll keep you all updated on my progress and hopefully it’ll be super boring!

Seriously, I want to thank all of you who already have my situation in your prayers…it means a lot!
