Recent Match Report – Namibia vs Sri Lanka 1st Match, First Round Group A 2022/23

Throw Sri Lanka chose to bowl against Namibia

Sri Lanka won the coin toss and opted to play first in the opening match of the Men’s T20 World Cup in Geelong, likely due to their preference for scoring pursuit. Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus said he also would have liked to hunt.

For Namibia, 19-year-old fly-half Divan la Cock enters the squad and will be partnered at the top of the order by Michael van Lingen, with Stephan Baard ready to beat at No 3. They have a fairly established middle order , with Erasmus ready to beat there, and the experienced David Wiese likely to play the role of finisher. They also bowl deep – left arm spinner Bernard Scholtz and setter Ben Shikongo are the only specialist bowlers.
Sri Lanka suffered a blow at the weekend when left-arm fast Dilshan Madushanka was likely ruled out of the tournament with a quadriceps injury. In his place in the XI, Sri Lanka have Pramod Madushan, who made his debut late in their Asian Cup campaign.

The batting holds no major surprises, although there is no room for Charith Asalanka, with Dhananjaya de Silva batting at No.3 and Danushka Gunathilaka at No.4.
