Recycling center open next week in Marshall

The Calhoun County Marshall Recycling Center will reopen next week on Tuesday, November 2, with some changes. In a press release from the Calhoun County Community Development Office, recyclers are urged to take note of a few important updates, including hours of operation, recycling procedures, and general tips.

The Marshall Recycling Center is located at 13300 15 Mile Road, Marshall.

The new times are:

  • Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tips for a successful trip:

  • Stay in your vehicle.
  • Place your recycling in your trunk or truck.
  • Please consider placing your recycling in containers that can be left at the recycling center such as boxes and paper bags.

Recycling center procedures:

  • Recycling must be classified in the categories accepted by the center. Unsorted recycling should be taken to the C&C landfill recycling center. Passes are available on our website.
  • Don’t tie the bags, we have to sift the recycle as we unload it. No black garbage bags.
  • The recycling must be empty, clean and dry. We cannot recycle wet paper and cardboard.
  • Flatten all cardboard boxes except the ones you use to transport your other recyclables to the center.

Please sort into the following categories:

  • Aluminum food containers
  • Steel and cans
  • Clear glass jugs, bottles and jars
  • # 1 Transparent, blue or green PET plastic bottles and jars
  • # 2 Natural HDPE plastic bottles
  • # 2 Colorful HDPE plastic bottles
  • Mixed plastic containers # 3 – # 7
  • Newspaper
  • Journals and Catalogs
  • Office paper
  • Plain and corrugated cardboard
  • Polystyrene # 6 (no packing peanuts or construction foam)

For those who have a lot of recycling at home, the center asks residents to consider making multiple trips. Residents are also urged to ensure that traffic can still enter and exit the Calhoun County Roads Department while you are in line and please do not separate or turn around in nearby commercial lots.
