NEW YORK, July 12 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SIGA Technologies, Inc. (SIGA) (NASDAQ: SIGA), a commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on the health safety market, today announced orders of approximately $28 million. for TPOXX® (tecovirimat), including approximately $2 million for the initial supply by two new international jurisdictions and approximately $26 million for the supply by Canada, of which approximately $22 million is purchased by the Agency Public Health Canada (PHAC) and approximately $4 million is purchased by the Department of National Defense (DND) Canada under existing contracts. One of the new jurisdictions is in Europe and the other is in the Asia-Pacific region.
In combination with PHAC’s order of approximately $13 million that was disclosed during the last call for investors, PHAC and DND have ordered approximately $39 million of oral TPOXX (tecovirimat) this year. The current order includes an increase of approximately $9 million to PHAC’s existing supply contract.
To date this year, SIGA has received approximately $56 million in international orders for oral TPOXX (tecovirimat) from six jurisdictions, five of which are new customers. So, including deliveries made in the second quarter, we expect at least $26 million in international deliveries by September 30, 2022; the delivery time for the remaining orders will be communicated at a later date.

On July 13, 2018, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved oral TPOXX for the treatment of smallpox to mitigate the impact of a possible epidemic or bioterrorist attack. In December 2021, oral TPOXX was approved for the same indication by Health Canada. Tecovirimat (TPOXX) was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in January 2022 with a broader label that covers the treatment of smallpox, monkeypox, cowpox and complications of smallpox vaccination.

Smallpox is a contagious, disfiguring and often fatal disease that has affected humans for thousands of years.
