YouTube censors Steven Crowder on Trans Show

More than 5 million users follow Steven Crowder’s popular late-night comedy show on YouTube, but the video platform froze its channel for a week because of an episode highlighting the decision of the California to house biological men in women’s prisons.

“We have removed content and issued a warning to the StevenCrowder channel for violating our hate speech policy, repeatedly targeting the LGBTQ + community,” a YouTube spokesperson told The Daily Signal on Thursday after- midday.

The Crowder show in question is a September 30 episode titled “Special Guest ALEX JONES on ‘Great Reset’ & Joe Rogan TRIGGERS Leftists AGAIN!” (Jones is a prominent far-right radio host and Rogan is a popular podcaster.)

“Hate speech is not allowed on YouTube,” the YouTube spokesperson told Daily Signal, “and in some cases we remove content or impose other sanctions, such as a strike, when a creator Repeatedly targets, insults and abuses a protected group based on attributes such as sexual orientation or gender identity and expression on multiple downloads.

In a letter to Crowder’s attorney, William Richmond, YouTube said the September 30 episode contained “a segment that targets the transgender community in an offensive manner, for example, indicating that trans people pose a threat of rape for women”.

If a YouTube channel receives three “strikes” in the same 90-day period, it will be permanently removed from YouTube, the spokesperson told Daily Signal.

This isn’t the first time YouTube has censored Crowder’s channel. The platform said it also gave the StevenCrowder channel a strike in March for violating the platform’s policy on integrity of the presidential election and a second strike in May for violating its harassment policy.

YouTube also indefinitely suspended Crowder from its partner program for violating the program’s policies, rendering the Crowder channel ineligible for monetization.

In May, Crowder filed a lawsuit against YouTube in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

“We have filed a legal notice of suit and an immediate injunction against YouTube,” the comedian said at the time. “He’s the big one. That’s the big deal with the Roman Empire at this point. In fact, the Roman Empire couldn’t imagine the power of Alphabet, which owns YouTube and Google.

Crowd added:

It is like saying, “No conservative is welcome. I’m not saying this to brag. You know, I never talk about numbers on my show because I want the content to speak for itself, but it’s by far the # 1 show on new media. Period. We beat [Jimmy] Kimmel. We beat Trevor Noah. We beat these guys everyday. Each day.

But it’s not because of us, these are conservative views. These opinions are not welcome. And the reason we filed an injunction for immediate relief is to make sure our channel is still active, that we know what action to take next.

The September 30 broadcast discussed reports from the Women’s Liberation Front, a feminist organization, that an inmate at a California women’s prison became pregnant after biological men who said they identified as women were incarcerated in the prison.

A year ago, Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, passed a bill requiring the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to require inmates in its custody to specify their preferred personal pronouns and gender identity, and to ” Indicate whether they identify as transgender, non-binary. , or intersex. The law entered into force in January.

New California law also requires the prison service to house an inmate in an institution “based on individual preference”, prevents the service from disciplining those who refuse to provide gender information, allows later update of this information and requires staff to use the gender pronouns requested by inmates.

Crowder’s September 30 show featured a discussion of this topic, followed by a short comedy skit.

“What’s terrifying is that there is a story about a trans — uh, bisexual boy wearing a skirt who allegedly raped a girl in a high school bathroom,” a report said Thursday. on Crowder’s website, referring to a Daily Wire report on the father of a ninth grade girl who said he was raped in a girls’ toilet at a Loudoun County high school by a boy who was allegedly “sexist” “.

“This father was arrested in [Loudoun County] school board meeting and has become an illustration of why school boards “need” Justice Department Joe Biden to treat affected parents like national terrorists, “the post said on Crowder’s website. “We discussed THIS horrible story today. And TODAY is when we find out we’re hanging for a story from two weeks ago?”

Lora Ries, director of the Center for Technology Policy at the Heritage Foundation, told the Daily Signal in an email Thursday that YouTube and other big tech platforms must “stop trying to identify and censor” speech. hate “,” disinformation “,” “offensive” material and other content that they suddenly find “otherwise objectionable” on an ever-changing basis. (The Daily Signal is The Heritage Foundation’s multimedia news organization.)

“Businesses aren’t good at this, they censor free speech and have become a means of shutting down content and / or users that the company is biased against,” Ries said, adding:

As a reminder, Congress’ original intention to grant ISPs section 230 liability protection was to restrict the access or availability of pornographic, excessively violent and harassing content. These platforms have strayed from this original intent and should not have liability protection for their censorship behavior.

Crowder did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Signal.
